Facet-driven pain can feel deceptively “ordinary” at first, but when stiffness and aching become daily, even simple movements like standing, twisting, or walking can start to feel restricted.
What Are Facet Joints?
Facet joints are paired joints located on the back of the spine. They connect one vertebra to the next and help guide spinal movement, especially bending, twisting, and extending.Because facet joints are weight-bearing and constantly in motion, they are vulnerable to:
- Injury and mechanical strain
- Degenerative changes in the discs and spine
- Arthritis-related inflammation
- Wear and tear over time
When facet joints become irritated, pain can develop gradually and become persistent, often worsening with specific movements.
