Complex Regional Pain Syndrome can cause intense, disproportionate pain that persists long after an injury has healed, often disrupting movement, function, and quality of life in profound ways.
Understanding Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
CRPS is a disorder of the nervous system that typically develops after trauma, surgery, fracture, or nerve injury. While the initial injury may be minor, the pain response becomes amplified and persistent, often extending beyond the original area of damage. CRPS is generally divided into two types:
- CRPS Type I, which occurs without confirmed nerve injury
- CRPS Type II, which follows a known nerve injury
In both cases, abnormal communication between peripheral nerves, the spinal cord, and the brain contributes to ongoing pain and dysfunction. At Regen Axis Health, CRPS is treated as a complex neuro-inflammatory condition rather than a purely structural problem.
