Facet-related pain can start as occasional stiffness and gradually become a daily limitation, especially when bending, twisting, or standing upright triggers persistent discomfort in the neck or lower back.
What Are Facet Joints?
Facet joints are paired joints located along the back of the spine. They connect one vertebra to the next and play a major role in both mobility and stability.
Because facet joints are involved in nearly every movement of the spine, they are vulnerable to:
- Degenerative wear and tear over time
- Arthritis-related inflammation
- Mechanical strain from repetitive activity
- Increased load caused by disc degeneration
- Postural stress and compensation patterns
When facet joints become irritated, pain often develops gradually and can become persistent.
