Facet-related pain can quietly build over time, especially when stiffness and aching start to show up every morning or after long periods of sitting, commuting, or being on your feet.
What Are Facet Joints?
Facet joints are small paired joints located on the back of the spine. They connect one vertebra to the next and play a major role in controlling movement and stability. Because facet joints are involved in nearly every motion of the spine, they can become irritated due to:
- Degenerative wear and tear
- Arthritis-related inflammation
- Injury and mechanical strain
- Increased load from disc degeneration
- Postural stress and compensation patterns
When facet joints become inflamed, pain often develops gradually and may worsen over time.
